Maty and you are generous and big hearted in opening your house to Muslim friends, and others, this Eid.

The man who made the comment was just plain ignorant brother. He has no place to pass judgement on you or your marraige.

I mentioned your post to a dinner table full of Muslims tonight and a loud collective groan was sounded.

The Qur'an says clearly that only God is the final judge on all matters. And, where religion is concerned, the Qur'an says that Muslims may marry Christians, Jews, Sabians, and those who accept the divinity of God.

The Prophet Muhammad married a woman who was Christain. It was lawful and accepted.

Marraige between Muslims and Christians/Jews is not rare.

The man in question here was rude and is ignorant of Islamic law. He may want to argue that the Prophet's example only applies to men.

That is wrong too. The Qur'an does not make a distinction between men and women in these terms.

There is no second class status among Muslims no matter what is implied in the way that patriarchy or culture has shaped its practice.

Though I understand your point about being proud and American at that moment, it must be balanced by the fact that Islam does not force "compulision" in religion.

Being in America, my dear friend, is not really the issue when it comes to your right to be married to Maty, and Maty's right to be married to you.

Islam recognizes that right, and by direct implication, so does God/Allah.

One humanity my brother Dade, I know you stand for that too :0)

Peace to you and Maty,
RidwanRidwanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16758153484699728802noreply@blogger.com
